How to Clean and Maintain Laminate Floors

Laminate floors need a special type of maintenance in order to keep them gleaming even for a long time. As you know, the laminate is a great option for flooring Bakersfield because it’s affordable and aesthetically pleasing. It’s usually known as Formica, a trademark word that has become a generic term for laminate. Regardless of what you call it, learning how to clean these floors is the key to keeping them looking great for a long time.

The best way to keep the floors clean is to wipe any spills immediately. Remember that the longer the liquid stays in the floor, the more likely it’s going to stain.

So check out the tips below on how you can maintain your laminate floors and keep them looking new for a longer time.

Protect Them

Here’s how you can keep your laminate flooring Bakersfield CA protected:

– Wipe the spills immediately. Remember, water that lingers on the laminate floors longer is a total disaster.

– When feeding your pet, place mats under their feeding bowl and do the same thing with the high chair of your baby. The mat will catch any liquid spills.

– Never use any product on your floor that promotes shine. These products will only cause a waxy buildup in your floors that can become extremely difficult to remove.

– Don’t use cleaners that are pine scented. These cleaners have the tendency to leave dull and soapy residue on the floors.

– Avoid using Murphy’s Oil because this product could leave major streaks on your laminate floor.

– The use of vinegar on laminate is still widely debated because its level of acidity may be harmful to the laminate surface. Yet, some people use a little bit of vinegar and plenty of hot water in order to remove pet grime. Using a lot of vinegar could remove the protective seal of the flooring.

– Avoid traditional wet mopping as this could ruin your laminate floors.

– Try to avoid wearing stiletto heels as much as you can. If you need to wear them, carry them out and wear them only when you’re out of the door.

– Trim the nails of your pets regularly before they could scrape the protective layers of the floor off.

– Place furniture pads under the legs of your tables, chairs, and other furniture.

Maintenance Tips

Here are some maintenance tips to keep in mind:

– Use a soft bristle broom to sweep the floors. Sweeping can help to remove debris, pet hair, and pretty much every bit of dirt that has accumulated on the floor.

– Use the soft brush attachment in your vacuum to clean hard-to-reach dust at the corner of your rooms.

– Using damp mop means less water can enter between your laminate seams. Mix a few drops of liquid detergent with hot water. Dip your mop in the mixture, squeeze and mop the floor.

In a Pinch

– Occasionally use a steam mop for deep cleaning. Don’t do this daily though since the repeated use of steam could buckle the laminate.

– You can use window cleaner occasionally to clean up the spills in your laminate Bakersfield flooring but never use ammonia since it could strip the protective sealant off.

9 Great Colors For Your Gallery Wall

Selecting art for your house can be a labor of love. Whether it’s an original painting or drawing, a mass-produced print or a wonderful photograph, your art helps to tell a story and define your own style. I think art makes the best impression when it is surrounded by color.

You may be tempted to leave your walls white so they don’t remove from your masterpiece, but consider this: color brings out color, and in the case of black and white art, color brings out detail. If you have put careful thought into choosing and organizing your bits, then it simply makes sense to place the same amount of consideration into picking a brilliant background hue.

Twenty7 layout

You can never go wrong if you hang on your art on a wall painted with a neutral hue. To make a stunning space, pick a darker shade, such as dim bluish gray.

A lilac stripe highlights the art display in this space. This shade not just joins in with the room’s decor, but in addition, it helps to create a focal point by placing the accent on the art. This is an excellent choice to painting an entire wall.

A sky blue wall makes a nice contrast against this mostly-white art bit. Both the art and wall color have an ethereal appearance, which provides this bedroom a calm and stylish feel.

Within this retro-inspired space, avocado green walls are the ideal complement to the artwork and accessories. The color is a nod to ’70s and the’60s.

Integrated

If your art has vivid hues, do not think your wall color has to be equally vibrant. Softer, muted paint colours will permit your bit to shine, while playing down the rest of the room.

Kids’ Bedrooms: Amp Up the Playfulness

Thinking about redoing your kid’s bedroom? Then it’s time to roll up your sleeves and have a little fun. You might not feel as if you can cut loose in many of your home’s rooms, however your kid’s bedroom is a place that can be as inviting and comfortable as it is spunky, playful and creatively inspiring. Get your thoughts rolling with some of those pictures and thoughts, and then gear up to make a space where your kid can be a kid.

Michael Fullen Design Group

Boost the picture appeal. There could possibly be no TV watching in your child’s bedroom, but other than that, decor principles are slim, so get your pattern on. Choose funky, colorful prints and mix them together with neutral patterns to make a balanced look that screams delight.

Amy Lau Design

All hail the stripes. Bright and colorful horizontal stripes will make your kid’s bedroom appear larger and make an energetic background for his or her furnishings. Place off with vibrant fabrics and patterns in similar and complementary colours to make the most of the look.

Cary Bernstein Architect

Make space for a life-size chalkboard. It provides the perfect outlet for constant creative expression while also being easy to wash. Try finding a vintage chalkboard on wheels for an unexpected bedroom accessory, or paint a whole wall with chalkboard paint.

Jennifer Brouwer (Jennifer Brouwer Design Inc)

Proceed for the comfy canopy. Let your child’s imagination run wild beneath a dreamy canopy bed. For an extra style punch, select a bold color this like royal purple.

Grace Blu Designs, Inc..

Personalize the walls. Not every area can get away with colorful circles around the wall, but your kid’s bedroom can. This can be a simple DIY job you and your child do together: Use circular stencils to outline the form and fill them with whatever colour you select.

Cristi Holcombe Interiors

Get the ceiling on the action. Give your kid something inspiring to look at while she is daydreaming her summer afternoons away. These yellowish stripes give the space a cabana feel that pops off the mattress shams that are magenta.

RLH Studio

Get the ceilings AND the walls on the action. Why stop at the top? Amp both the ceiling and your walls with painted murals or colorful wallpaper. The space will feel like an imaginative escape.

Be”trendy” around storage. Your son or daughter will be the hippest kid on the block using repurposed lockers as storage. Perhaps it will even inspire him to wash up? An individual can hope!

Erika Ward – Erika Ward Interiors

Go for colorful pattern on the headboard. Headboards would be the perfect spot to bring an extra dose of vibrant style. A pattern similar to this one can easily evolve along with different looks as your child gets older.

Bellisa Design

Take the bed skirt to the next level. Texture is an important element in almost any space. Why don’t you slip it into your child’s space in an expressive way via a ruffled, magenta bed skirt? Its fun frills are a playful juxtaposition from the wrought iron bed.

Lakeitha Duncan

Repurpose the closet. If storage is not an issue, wash out the closet for extra play space. Every kid likes his own little distinctive location he can call all his own.

Tracy Murdock Allied ASID

Cover a wall using an oversize picture. Whether it is of a dreamy beach scene, a favorite sports team or Hannah Montana, a giant photo might provide inspirational vision your little one will love.

Go bold with all the walls. Pink walls? Why not! Balance it with furnishings that are neutral, and enhance the fun with wall stickers or painted details.

Bellisa Design

Get whimsical with a oversize valance. This window therapy makes the space feel like a princess fairyland. A escape!

Stephanie Lake, PhD

Get exceptional with chairs. Any area can come with a regular seat, but a swinging chair is sudden and fun, especially with green paint as an accent.

Alexander Johnson Photography

Make the most of the floor space. Looking for a spot to infuse some color? Sneak it in using a playful, color-blocked rug made of carpet tiles. It visually excite the space (and help hide the inevitable stains).

Houzz Tour: Modern Meets Conventional in Eclectic Loft

Designer Andrew Flesher discovered that the challenge of outfitting a broad open loft space — without breaking walls, traditional rooms of any kind and 60 feet of glass windows — compelling enough to take it on. And he took a surprising approach when decorating the distance, mixing traditional furnishings with modern pieces. “I really like the combination of things so that there’s some surprise, some anxiety, some juxtaposition between substances, styles, and level of formality,” Flesher says.

His Minneapolis loft exemplifies the tension between traditional and contemporary. Highlights include white leather upholstery paired using wooden antique bits, abstract paintings mixed with classical oil portraits, and art deco light fixtures sprinkled about.

Following is a look of how he divided the ground plan into a livable space, making an elegant-yet-relaxed living room in an urban atmosphere.

A box-style bookcase in white serves as a divider, delineating the more casual seating area from the dining room. Instead of stuffing each box with publications, items are carefully positioned in each branch, making an intriguing scape which includes cable chunks, contemporary sketches and mirrors among a couple piles of stacked books. Two white leather upholstered chairs with black frames face each other, making a cozy conversation area.

Farther into the space is just another casual seating area comprising an overstuffed couch upholstered in grey linen. Two white ceramic stools flank an oversized, square wooden coffee table, making a nice contrast of light and dark. A dark brown sisal rug also helps create an awareness of a smaller room.

The shiny white flooring and bright white wall give a contemporary, clean environment where the designer has placed traditional furnishings for this particular corner office. A Dorothy Draper black desk extends nicely with a grand oil portrait framed within an abysmal gold-leaf frame. Vintage crystal sconces add a touch of art deco glamour to the grouping.

A large abstract painting by artist Harold Hollingsworth hangs contrary to a freestanding wall. Two polished nickel chrome chairs sit facing using a green fern to the left breaking up the highly clean, modern look. A classic crystal chandelier adds to the grouping’s overall elegance.

The oversized French country agency (complete with a pleasure tasseled secret ) is juxtaposed nicely against the ultra-modern and modern white Barcelona chairs and ottoman. The general contrast provides a sleek look that is made warmer from the wooden bit. “I do believe that all design, and all new design, is really a development of what has happened in the past,” Flesher has said, which is one of those reasons he showcases all of his antiques in this glass block of some room.

Among the most contemporary vignettes of this space is this little Buddha statue which rests on a white base mimicking the cylindrical form of this column. Doesn’t it feel serene? This is a stunning example of how to execute restraint.

A gentle upholstered headboard feels casual put from the elegant cherry chest of drawers and easy, oversized mirror. The easy black iron lamp is a clean choice that does not compete with the intricacy of their chest.

A genuine weathered mirror offsets the antique wooden cabinet he’d fitted for the ceramic oval sink. Fresh flowers are arranged, and a gold framed drawing using a sage green matte is wrapped over the toilet. A number of the only contemporary sconces flank the elaborate mirror, which is yet another example of the tension between traditional and contemporary.

The kitchen is modern with laminate white cabinets, chrome fixtures and white appliances. Black Scandinavian wooden chairs surround a white Saarinen table. It’s the most only white space, allowing any and all meals to be the star.

Kitchens Designed for Gathering

A couple of weeks ago, I gave a seminar on kitchen design trends at a local tile showroom. One of the main points in my presentation was the way the kitchen will stay — for the near future, anyway — the middle of the house environment.

Thus, the issue in today’s kitchen layout is how to create a space for family and/or visitors to collect in this room — and have it be a little different from what the neighbors have. Based upon the room design, flow into and out of the surrounding areas, there are numerous alternatives worth considering. Here are a few variations on the subject.

Archipelago Hawaii Luxury Home Designs

Kitchen island, version 2.0. I simply love the notion of combining an island and a table. In this Hawaiian kitchen, seats for four is put right in the middle of everything. By using exactly the identical material on the island counter along with the tabletop, it is a smooth integration between the two uses.

Christian Rice Architects, Inc..

In this variation, the kitchen is big enough that a change in substances between the island and table differentiates the dining area from the work locations. Another smart design choice. Notice, too how the light fixture over the table can also be distinct. Super smart.

Michael Fullen Design Group

Move island seats away in the main working area. If you are considering an island as your principal gathering spot, be aware of the intersection between work places and guest hangouts. The cook ought to be able to work effectively and unhindered even with buddies hanging out during final prep time. In this kitchen, the seating area is moved to one end of the kitchen, opposite of the functioning end, letting both places plenty of space to function properly.

Rob Kane – Kitchen Interiors Inc..

In this conventional kitchen, the island seats is placed opposite the main work areas. I can see the children gathered around the island on Saturday mornings waiting to get a fresh batch of pancakes to come off the griddle.

Alabama Sawyer

When space is tight, then use a cozy corner to get a counter-height dining table. This kitchen is too narrow for an island, but a unique kitchen dining table is”attached” to the counters in a place between the living and kitchen areas. It is a very efficient use of space and ideal as a celebration gathering spot or for the Sunday morning crossword puzzle.

HartmanBaldwin Design/Build

The kitchen dining table: an idea that deserves another look. In the tradition of the European kitchen, a dining table in the kitchen produces a cozy eating environment where dinner travels from being cooked into the dinner table in only measures. By placing an elaborate area rug under the dining table, this distance feels much like a dining area than a kitchen. It reminds me of a chef’s table in a luxury restaurant.

The kitchen table that also serves as prep surface. I’m so in love with this kitchen the simplicity of this color scheme (just black, marble and white ) and the tasteful design. The concept of a gathering table on chunky turned legs that also plays the role of prep surface if necessary is genius. Top all that off with glistening chrome pendants, and it’s almost perfect.

Mal Corboy Design

A built-in table extends work surface, saves space and provides seating. I searched hard for a few images of the thought. The seamless integration of this round countertop/table is a smart use of floor area and provides seats for many people in the kitchen whilst not crowding the cook.

Here’s another illustration of the attached table as part of the counters. In this kitchen, we put an increased glass table on one end of the kitchen to offer seating for four. Again, positioning was critical: out of this way, but in the kitchen.

The best way to Remove Asphalt Tile Adhesive From a Concrete Floor

Tiling is of interest because of its own physical toughness and its inexpensive, including resistance to grease, oil and mildew. It it takes a powerful adhesive to to keep it and that adhesive can be significantly more difficult to eliminate as opposed to asphalt tiles when the time comes to remove or change the tiling. Chemical remedies, primarily solvents, may be employed to weaken the adhesive therefore their use is unwanted, but these are usually very flammable health insurance and harmful for your health. An approach that is safer would be to chip the adhesive in the surface that is concrete.

Clear the whole ground of hurdles. Close doorways that are inner to stop dirt from entering the remaining building. Open windows and all exterior doors to provide just as much ventilation as possible. Don heavy duty work gloves.

Make sure the tile remover disconnected from your power supply and is powered down. Fit a new blade on the tile remover. The specific attachment method differs in line with the maker, but the basic procedure requires sliding a blade to the slot loosening the clamp nuts and tightening the nuts. Refer to the product guide for directions that are specific.

Don safety goggles, security shoes, ear protectors and a dust mask.

Adjust the angle as specified from the documentation of the manufacturer. Start using a reasonably shallow angle between the floor as well as the blade. The goal will be to position the blade with all the front leading edge aligned together with the root of the asphalt adhesive. It is better to begin with the angle which is too shallow than steep — a steep angle might reduce to the concrete and harm the ground.

Connect the tile remover to the powersupply. Position it with the near to the region of asphalt adhesive to be eliminated.

Switch on the tile remover and enable the blade to get as much as speed. Gently transfer the device ahead and permit the blade to start chipping in the adhesive. In the event the blade cuts perhaps not seriously enough, or also deeply, swap it off, disconnect the energy and re-adjust the blade.

Until it’s eradicated move the tile remover on the other side of the flooring, chipping a-T each section of adhesive. Stop periodically to enable the blade to great and also to sweep-up adhesive chips that are damaged.
